Used oil helps Carco heat up

Washington's first used-car superstore is relying on used motor oil and transmission fluid to meet its heating needs.  The Carco auto dealership in Renton recently installed a new Shenandoah boiler distributed by northwest Industrial Equipment of Kent.  The boiler burns used petroleum-based fluids to heat hot water for radiant floor heat.  Carco collects the fluids when it performs auto lube changes.  "This recycling process cuts our fuel costs to zero," said Carco President Mike Scarff.  The boiler installed at Carco produces 140,000 British thermal units of energy for every gallon of used oil burned, and gerates up to 500,000 BTUs an hour, along with 13 gallons a minute of 100-degree water to wash cards.  "Used oil heatersa dn boilers provide companies with a efficient way to recycle motor oil on site and cut operating costs," said Howard Levens, CEO of Northwest Industrial Equipment.  Shenandoa boilers also have been installed at a BP Station in Lynnwood and the Gray Line of Seattle bus mainteance facility in West Seattle.
