WASTE OIL BURNER FRIENDLY TO BOTTOM LINE
AND THE ENVIRONENT
KENT, Wash. - Two sunny days in a row and Puget Sound residents head in droves for the nearest car wash. For at least one area service station that increase in activity adds up to significant operational savings, thanks to some newly installed, environmentally friendly technology.
The BP Station at 196111 Alderwood Mall Parkway, in Lynnwood, was recently fitted with the new Shenandoah/Columbia WL60 Boiler, distributed by NW Industrial Equipment of Kent. This unique boiler allows station operators to burn used motor oil from the two on-site lube bays to heat car wash water and provide radiant floor heat for the convenience store.
Since the boiler was installed, savings have been reflected in lower heating bills and no cost for disposal of used motor oil. In addition to being conveniet and economical to use the Shenandoah/Columbia boiler allows the station's managment to be stewards of the environment, according to General Manager of Express Concepts, Dan Kestel.
"The boiler has helped us achieve a fully sustainable operation," said Kestel. "No motor oil ever leaves this site. This is a great way to recycle."
Another are business that counts on the Shenandoah/Columbia boiler to convert waste oil into hot water to heat its facilities is Gray Line Bus Tours, a subsidiary of Holland American Tours. A 1,700 lb. WL60 boiler cranks out 235,000 to 800,000 BTU's at the company's newly opened motor coach facility in West Seattle. The boiler burns used motor oil, transmission and hydraulic fluids and other petroleum-based lubricants. Water heated by the boilers is used to provice year-round radiant floor heat to the 14,000 square foot service area.
The Shenandoah/Columbia boiler is the only boiler designed to operate with waste oil and is constructed to meet ASME (American Society of Mechanic Engineers) code according to Howard Levens, CEO of Northwest Industrial Equipment.
"Every Shenandoah/Columbia heater/boiler meets on-site used oil recycling guidelines of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Puget Sound Air Pullution Control agency and the Department of Ecology," Levens added.
