Hawaiian Ola

Kona and Hilo, HI

Equipment: Columbia Boiler CT 50 (150 psi) biodiesel-powered high-pressure steam boiler. Their CT 50 has a unique burner designed to burn B100 biodiesel. Hawaiian Ola will purchase B100 biodiesel from Pacific Biodiesel's Big Island biodiesel plant.

Project: Supply a high-pressure steam boiler to provide steam heat for distilling spirits. The package included a blow-down separator, condensate/water feed tank, and pump.

Hawaiian Ola’s distillation facility in Kailua-Kona distills a traditional Hawaiian spirit, Okolehao. Their test batches have won numerous awards. Hawaiian Ola has property near Hilo, where they grow the primary Okolehau ingredient - ti plant roots. They will sell Okolehao in their Kona and Hilo tasting rooms in 2024 and, in time, ramp up to large-scale production and global distribution.

Hawaiian Ola has a popular brewery and busy tap rooms in Kona and Hilo. A Columbia MPH-20 boiler provides consistent steam heat for their brewery operations.

SPSCC proudly opened the country’s first associate degree program in craft brewing, distilling, and cider making. Located on the nearly 6-acre Tumwater Craft District, students work in world-class facilities alongside local brewers, distillers, and cider makers, discovering how to be successful in the industry.

Trail Distilling

Oregon City, OR

Equipment: Columbia Boiler MPH-40 (40 HP) gas, low pressure steam boiler

Project: Supply low pressure steam boiler to supply heat for distilling spirits. Package includes blow down separator, PowerFlame burner, and feed water system.

The founder encountered a unique challenge - state law requires a boiler be in a fire-proof room. By putting their boiler in a shipping container they saved money and freed up space in their distilling room to store cask and barrel products and expand their distilling capacity.

  • The boiler feed water system promotes longer boiler life by adding water to the boiler as needed. Their system includes a factory-installed 3-phase duplex starter panel and HOA switch.
  • A blow down separator is a must to ensure steaming hot boiler water is discharged safely.

  • Wildwood's award winning distiller/partner Erik Liedholm is also an accredited sommelier. With his unique skills and training plus the fine Washington ingredients used in their spirits, there will be a lot of celebrating at Wildwood Spirits Co.
